Radiator care tips

Posted by:

With the heat of summer upon us, we wanted to share a couple quick tips to make sure your truck stays where you want it….on the road. One of the things we notice not too many people watch out for is a dirty radiator. If you think about it, going down the road your radiator is constantly being exposed to dust, dirt, and water. If you mix these, you get mud. When mud dries you do not get air flow to that portion of your radiator. This is why we suggest people bring their trucks in for a couple of easy and inexpensive maintenance items for your radiator.

1. Blow out and washout of radiator fins. This gets the loose dirt, then the caked in dirt out of your radiator making it more efficient and ensuring you don’t overheat from a clogged radiator.

2. Pressure test radiator cap. A radiator cap is a very inexpensive item, but it can cost you a lot if it isn’t working properly. It takes moments to test, and usually can be done during another service.

3. Test your coolant. Yes, this is something we worry more about during the winter months, but the right ratio of water/coolant is something that needs to be maintained at all times. Its a simple and inexpensive test that will give you peace of mind no matter what the temperature outside.

And last but not least Happy Independence Day from my family to yours!
